Redundant Hydraulic Power Units for Floodgate Operation on the River Po

CMH designed and built 5 redundant hydraulic power units to operate floodgates installed along the River Po, in an application tied to flood management and territorial hydraulic safety.

CMH designed and built 5 redundant hydraulic power units to operate floodgates installed along the River Po, in an application tied to flood management and the hydraulic safety of the territory.

Each unit was engineered to drive 1 double-acting cylinder responsible for raising and lowering a single floodgate. Under flood conditions, these systems allow the controlled opening of the gates, helping release water towards the Emilian plain and contributing to the prevention of overtopping and uncontrolled breaches.

The core of the project is functional redundancy: each power unit is equipped with 2 motor/pump groups, designed to guarantee service continuity even if the first group becomes unavailable. In applications of this kind, reliability is not a bonus but an essential requirement.

Main technical data

The delivery of these systems confirms the CMH approach to hydraulic design: custom solutions, built to respond to real operating conditions, with particular attention to robustness, operational continuity and safety.

When the application is critical, it needs a system engineered to act with reliability, precision and continuity. It is precisely in these contexts that CMH hydraulics delivers its greatest value.
