CMH designed and built a hydraulic power unit for handling the formwork used in the construction of masonry structures.
This is an application in which the hydraulic system must combine two essential characteristics: developing the force required to move the structures while at the same time allowing precise, progressive control of the actuators.
The power unit was therefore engineered to drive 5 double-acting cylinders, with a working pressure of up to 320 bar and movement management entrusted to proportional valves with a 0–10 V control signal.
Technical configuration
The main characteristics of the system are:
7.5 kW main electric motor;
1.5 kW boost motor;
4 pumps with 1.1 cc/rev displacement;
100-litre oil reservoir;
working pressure up to 320 bar;
5 double-acting cylinders controlled;
proportional valves with 0–10 V control.
Force and control in formwork handling
The formwork used in concrete works must be positioned and moved with precision during the various stages of the construction process.
Hydraulics is a particularly suitable solution for this type of application thanks to its ability to develop high forces with relatively compact components.
In this system, the pressure available up to 320 bar provides the required force, while the use of proportional valves makes it possible to modulate the movement of the actuators.
The result is a system able to combine power and control.
0–10 V proportional valves
Proportional distribution makes it possible to regulate the behaviour of the cylinders through an analogue electrical signal.
Compared with purely ON/OFF control, this solution allows more progressive movement management and offers greater scope for integration with the machine control system.
In formwork handling applications this means being able to manage approach movements, positioning and operating phases with greater precision, avoiding abrupt movements.
Five double-acting cylinders
The power unit is engineered to supply and control 5 double-acting hydraulic cylinders.
The circuit must therefore coordinate several services while guaranteeing pressure, flow rate and control consistent with the cycle required by the machine.
The four pumps with 1.1 cc/rev displacement make it possible to structure the hydraulic supply according to the different operating requirements defined by the project.
Main group and boost circuit
The unit integrates a 7.5 kW main motor and an additional 1.5 kW motor dedicated to the boost circuit.
This configuration was defined on the basis of the specific requirements of the application and contributes to the correct operation of the circuit under the expected working conditions.
Custom hydraulic power units for the construction sector
CMH designs and manufactures hydraulic power units for machines and equipment intended for numerous industrial sectors, including construction and infrastructure.
Every system is sized starting from concrete data:
number and characteristics of the actuators;
required forces;
working pressures;
movement speeds and times;
duty cycle;
control system;
environmental and installation conditions.
The objective is to build a unit genuinely integrated with the machine, rather than adapting a standard solution after the fact.
In this application, 5 double-acting cylinders, pressure up to 320 bar and 0–10 V proportional distribution deliver a system dedicated to the controlled handling of formwork, with the force and precision the process requires.
