Hydraulic Power Unit for a Straightener in a Combined Drawing Line

CMH designed and manufactured a hydraulic power unit for a straightener installed in a combined drawing line.

CMH designed and manufactured a hydraulic power unit for a straightener installed in a combined drawing line.

Combined drawing lines are used to produce bars, tubes or profiles starting from coiled material. Depending on the material being processed and the required result, the process can include several integrated stages, such as uncoiling, drawing, straightening, cutting and product handling.

In this context, the hydraulic power unit is responsible for driving the 2 cylinders of the straightener, ensuring controlled movements and operational continuity within the production cycle.

Technical configuration of the power unit

The unit was sized with the following main features:

Temperature control and continuous operation

In industrial lines intended for prolonged cycles, managing the oil temperature is an essential factor. The heat produced by continuous operation can change the viscosity of the fluid, reduce system efficiency and accelerate component wear.

For this reason the power unit is fitted with an air/oil heat exchanger, tasked with dissipating the heat generated during operation and keeping the circuit within the conditions defined by the design.

Thermal control helps to ensure:

A hydraulic solution engineered around the machine

The power unit is not a standard assembly adapted afterwards, but a solution developed around the straightener, the actuators to be driven and the real working conditions.

Custom design makes it possible to correctly coordinate installed power, pump displacement, reservoir volume, thermal management and circuit logic.

The goal is to supply the machine with the hydraulic energy it needs with regularity, precision and reliability, avoiding unnecessary oversizing and ensuring consistent integration with the production process.

CMH hydraulic power units for industrial applications

CMH designs and manufactures hydraulic power units for machines and systems across numerous industrial sectors. Every project is developed starting from the required functions, actuator data, work cycles and the environmental and operating conditions.

From schematic definition through to construction and testing, the entire system is configured to meet the specific requirements of the machine.

In this application, the combination of a 22 kW motor, a 43 cm³/rev pump, a 250-litre reservoir and an air/oil heat exchanger provides the straightener with a hydraulic system engineered to sustain continuous operation and reliably drive the 2 cylinders required.
